PRIVATE CLOUD – YOUR SOLUTION FOR MAXIMUM SECURITY, INDEPENDENCE, AND PERFORMANCE
Would you like to continue using your own hardware and host it in our ISO 27001-certified data center? Then our Colocation service is the right choice for you.
The 3U Private Cloud provides a secure home for your servers—without compromising on security or performance. A private cloud means exclusivity: You don’t share capacity and know exactly which resources are available to you. You have maximum control, security, and flexibility, while we take care of the hardware, operation, and maintenance. The infrastructure is located in our ISO 27001-certified data centers in Hanover or Berlin. You focus on your servers—maintenance is our job.
The 3U Private Cloud is ideal for business-critical applications such as ERP systems, line-of-business applications, databases, and all workloads where availability, security, and compliance are paramount. With clearly defined resources and a fixed environment, you also have planning certainty regarding costs and performance.
WHAT SETS THE 3U PRIVATE CLOUD APART
Are you looking to set up or migrate your server infrastructure externally and have high standards for security and availability? 3U TELECOM’s private cloud combines these requirements with the convenience of a cloud solution.

WHO IS THE PRIVATE CLOUD SUITABLE FOR?
- Companies that no longer wish to host their own hardware but still want to rely on their own IT department—for example, to continue managing applications, operating systems, and user support in-house.
- Companies that want to reduce the burden on their IT departments and focus more on applications, processes, and projects by outsourcing operations, data centers, and hardware.
- Companies that have specific IT requirements and therefore cannot rely on standard solutions from public cloud applications, for example due to individual compliance requirements or specific architectural needs.
- Organizations that are required or prefer to store their data exclusively within their own country (keyword: data sovereignty), for example due to regulatory requirements or internal security policies
A private cloud is less suitable for companies that lack in-house IT expertise or have highly fluctuating resource requirements. In such cases, it makes sense to use providers that offer managed services, including server operation and setup. There are also specialized private cloud providers in this sector.

TECHNICAL DESIGN AND SCOPE OF SERVICES
HYPERCONVERGED INFRASTRUCTURE (HCI)
TRADITIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE
3U TELECOM relies on a hyper-converged infrastructure for its private cloud. Computing power, storage, and networking are integrated into a single, coordinated system.
The clusters (nodes) of your dedicated infrastructure are uniformly designed but configured to meet your specific needs. We work with you to determine the CPU, RAM, and storage requirements. Multiple clusters operate as a single unit because all components are optimally coordinated.
Unlike traditional architectures, where servers, storage, and networking are procured, configured, and connected separately, HCI significantly reduces complexity. Operations become simpler, reliability increases, and the environment remains flexibly scalable.
| Criterion | Public Cloud | Private Cloud |
| Cost Model | No high upfront investments | Predictable, long-term stable costs |
| Scalability | Highly flexible & virtually unlimited scalability | Targeted and precise resource planning |
| Operation & maintenance | Provider handles maintenance and updates | Full control over updates and configuration |
| Security & Compliance | High security standards of major providers | Full data sovereignty and custom security policies |
| Performance & Customization | Quickly available, globally distributed data centers | Dedicated resources and high customization |
Virtualization with KVM and Proxmox
We set up the infrastructure for your private cloud and prepare everything for you. Each physical cluster node is configured with KVM and the Proxmox management interface. We administer and update the KVM and Proxmox environment.
You retain control over your server environment and can
- create virtual servers
- start
- stop
- delete
Additionally, you can create and manage LXC containers.
Cluster Nodes and High Availability
The minimum order for the Private Cloud includes three cluster nodes. We will discuss the specific configuration before launch; after that, all nodes will have identical hardware configurations. If you need more performance, we will add additional nodes; if your needs decrease, nodes can be removed from the environment.
For high availability, we recommend using an additional node. This ensures high reliability and allows for maintenance during operation—without any downtime for your applications.
Optional bookings
INTERNET CONNECTION
You can access your private cloud via the internet or a secure VPN connection. These connections are not included in the private cloud but can be added as an optional service. We offer internet access with speeds of up to 10 Gbps and static IPv4 addresses—available as a flat-rate plan or a burst model, tailored to your needs.
BACKUPS
Backups are not automatically included in the Private Cloud, but we can set them up for you.
We offer you two options:
Veeam Backup Software
- Extensive feature set
- Incremental backups
- Immutable backups
- Encrypted backups
- Flexible, intuitive virtual server recovery
Proxmox Backup
- Suitable for smaller environments
- For scenarios without specific security requirements (no encrypted or immutable backups)
- Cost-optimized implementation
Together, we define backup objectives such as RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective) to clarify how much data you can afford to lose in a worst-case scenario and how quickly your systems must be back up and running. This ensures that your backup and restore strategy precisely aligns with your technical requirements and protection goals.
3U TELECOM’s backup storage is physically separated from the hyperconverged infrastructure of the private cloud.
FEATURES OF A PRIVATE CLOUD
FAQ
How does the 3U Private Cloud differ from a public cloud?
In the public cloud, you share resources with many other customers, while workloads are logically separated from one another. In the 3U Private Cloud, you have access to a dedicated infrastructure that is designed, deployed, and operated exclusively for your company. This gives you more control, greater predictability in terms of performance and costs, and makes it much easier to meet your specific security, compliance, and architectural requirements.
For which workloads is the private cloud particularly well-suited?
Typical use cases include business-critical applications such as ERP and CRM systems, databases, specialized applications with strict compliance requirements, terminal server environments, or applications whose data must not leave the country or a specific jurisdiction. The private cloud is also often more cost-effective than public cloud models for stable, long-term workloads with minimal load fluctuations.
How does the migration to the 3U Private Cloud work?
To start, we work with you and your IT department to analyze your existing environment: the number and size of servers, applications, dependencies, maintenance windows, and risks. Based on this analysis, we create a migration plan with clearly defined steps, testing phases, and, if necessary, fallback scenarios. The goal is to ensure that the transition to the private cloud occurs with minimal disruption to ongoing operations and that your users notice as little as possible.
Who is responsible for operating the private cloud?
3U TELECOM provides the infrastructure, operates the hardware, manages KVM and Proxmox, and ensures the platform’s availability. Your internal IT department retains control over the virtual servers, operating systems, and applications, and decides which services are provided and how. This keeps responsibilities clearly separated: We take care of the foundation; you control what runs on it.
Can we scale the private cloud up or down later?
Yes. The private cloud is designed for scalability from the start. If you need more performance, we add additional cluster nodes; if your needs decrease, nodes can be removed. This allows the environment to grow with your business—without having to completely switch platforms.
How is data security ensured?
The private cloud is operated in ISO 27001-certified data centers in Germany. In addition to physical security measures, network segmentation, firewalls, and the latest security standards for operating systems and virtualization are employed. You can also add an extra layer of security with backup options (e.g., encrypted and immutable backups) to protect yourself against data loss and ransomware.
What role does our existing IT department play?
The private cloud doesn’t replace your IT department—it takes the pressure off. Your IT department no longer has to worry about hardware procurement, data center operations, and physical infrastructure, but remains responsible for operating systems, applications, updates, and user support. This keeps expertise in-house while freeing the team from routine hardware and infrastructure tasks.
Can we get started even without our own data center expertise?
Yes. You don’t need in-house expertise in data center operations or HCI architectures. All you need is an in-house IT team to manage your applications. We handle everything related to hardware, the virtualization platform, and the data center for you. If you don’t have an in-house IT department, an external managed service partner can take on this role.
How long will it take for our private cloud to be up and running?
The duration depends on the scope and complexity of the environment. For smaller setups, the platform can be ready for production within a few weeks; for larger environments, a planning and migration phase is required. During the initial consultation, you will receive a realistic assessment and a rough timeline.
What happens if our needs change significantly in a few years?
Because the private cloud is based on a scalable, hyper-converged infrastructure, it can adapt to new requirements—for example, by adding nodes, changing hardware profiles, or adjusting the virtual environment. If your IT strategy evolves toward a hybrid or multi-cloud approach, the private cloud can serve as a stable core that is combined with other platforms.
